Ladies Champs 2023

The weather for Wrag Barn Ladies Championships 2023 was predictably wet and windy with umbrellas flying in different directions, making one wonder if Mary Poppins was about to blow in.

The more intrepid ladies played 36 holes in the main championships and for those who wanted to play 18 holes the Daphne Willmett bowl was the alternative; age was no barrier with a lady in her 80s playing in the 36 hole competition.

Congratulations to Katy Walls who shot gross 81 in the morning and parred the course in the afternoon with a score of 74, an amazing result in such inclement conditions. The winner of the net competition was Sophie Sayer who shot 2 under her handicap in the afternoon to come in with a score of 152 over 36 holes. In the Daphne Willmett Bowl the phrase ‘beware the injured golfer comes to mind’ as Jac Brownsell who has had a challenging year living with an injured knee had a storming back nine and won the Daphne Willmett Bowl beating Anita Morten and Rachel Burton on count back.

There are so many people to thank for making sure the day ran like clockwork. Firstly Tracey who fielded emails, persuaded members to change tee times and made sure that everyone was fed in time to meet their next tee time. Thank you to the green staff for presenting the course, to Suzanne and the Ladies section for organising the competition and to the supporters on the day; Rod Welsby, Adrian Campbell, David Brownsell and our very own Lady President Jenny Stenhouse.
